History
John Adams Middle School has had its doors open to classes since 1923, making it one of the oldest middle schools in Los Angeles. However, its history goes back further, when, from 1888 to 1911, an elementary school called the Thirtieth Street
School was conducted at this location. In 1911 the school became Thirtieth Street Intermediate School, one of the original five schools of this kind in Los Angeles. The first location was Thirtieth Street, west of Main Street. In the late 1920's Hill Street and Broadway were cut through the school grounds in order to take care of traffic in this rapidly growing city. As the years passed, the school has experienced significant growth in enrollment and size, expanding to seven buildings and serving more than 1800 students of diverse backgrounds.
Following the example of our namesake, John Adams, the second President of the United States, we have made many contributions to our society of which we can be justly proud. The products of which John Adams Middle School can be most proud are the tens of thousands of students who have been educated on the campus throughout the years - going on to high schools, higher education and careers which have contributed to the betterment of the entire Los Angeles community. |
