Absences On the day you return from an absence, you need to bring a note to the Attendance Office between 7:00 a.m. and 7:20 a.m. The note should include your full name, the date(s) and the reason for the absence, the date you returned, and your parent’s or guardian's signature. The Attendance Office will issue a "PERMIT TO RE-ENTER CLASS" slip (PCR), which is to be signed by alt of your teachers.
Attendance School attendance is mandatory in California until the age of 18 or graduation from High School. Students are expected to be in school every day, unless they are ill, have a medical or dental appointment, or family trauma.
Bicycles All bicycles ridden to school should be locked in the bike rack located near bungalow 6. The secured area is open daily from 7:00 - 7:20 am. and from 3:13 - 3:25 p.m. Bicycles are not to be ridden on campus.
Cafeteria Food may be obtained in the cafeteria or in the outside “hash lines.” Cafeteria services are available to all students before school and during nutrition and lunch. We ask your help in keeping the cafeteria and lunch tables clean. Dispose of all garbage in the trash cans and leave the tables in a neat condition. Eating is permitted only in the cafeteria, the covered lunch area and designated areas of the quad. Eating is not permitted in the hail ways, in the classrooms or on the PE yard.
Change of Address / Phone Number Please notify the Attendance Office of any change in your address or telephone number.
Checking Out of School If you move and will be attending a new school, you must notify the Attendance Office and officially check-out of John Adams. All school textbooks and property must be returned before you will be cleared to attend another school.
Counseling Services All staff members are prepared to provide advice and assistance to our students. Our Grade Counselors are available to provide assistance if you have difficulty with your class schedule, grades, or if you are experiencing personal problems. It you wish to see your counselor, you may do so by making an appointment in the counseling office. Your counselor will summon you as soon as possible to discuss your request.
Culmination Requirements
To earn the middle school diploma, a student must have completed the following requirements:
- To graduate a student must pass 10 out 12 classes in eighth grade (May not fail the same class both semesters!) and accumulate a total of 120 credits.
- The student needs 50 credits out of 120 in eighth grade and NO more than 18 days absent.
- The student may not have more than 2 F's All Year and no more than 3 U's in work habits or cooperation the second semester to graduate and/or participate in the graduation activities.
All current sixth and seventh grade students must pass 10 out of 12 classes each year.

Emergency Cards At the beginning of the year, we sent home to your parents an Emergency Card to be fifled out and returned. This card may save your life if you are injured or ill and we need to contact a person to give approval for your care. If during the year, any of your emergency card information changes, please notify the Attendance Office. We cannot release any student to any adult who is not listed on the emergency card.
Emergency Drills Knowing what to do in time of danger could save lives. Practice drills are held regularly so that if a real emergency should arise, you will know exactly what to do.
Hall Passes You are not to be out of class for any reason, during class time, without an official hall pass, library pass, or referral.
Health Office Our Health Office is staffed by a registered nurse. The nurse administers first aid, arranges for students who become ill at school to go home, and advises where to get help with medical problems. The nurse cannot treat you except to give you first aid, If you must take medication during the school day, arrangements should be made by your parents to keep the medication with the school nurse.
 If you become ill at school or are in need of first aid, you must first go to your class and ask you teacher for a pass to the Health Office. In case of an accident, always report to the teacher in charge before coming to the Health Office.
ID Cards You must have a student ID card to participate in many school activities and/or to check-out sports equipment during nutrition or lunch. This card will serve as an identification and is required for admission to school dances.
Summer School Summer School classes are available to students during their vacation time. Students should sign up for Summer classes with Mr. Avalos and Ms. Davis.
Library Our school has an excellent library where books and other resource materials are available for you to check-out or for you to use in the library. The library is open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:19 p.m. The librarian offers a reading club as well as providing assistance in class work projects. Gum, food, or drink may not be brought into the library. Remember that the library is a place for reading, studying and doing reference work. Be courteous to others and work quietly while in the library.
Lost and Found The Lost and Found is located in the Parent Center. It is recommended that all of your personal belongings (i.e., notebooks, backpacks, etc.) be marked with your name. Students who find any articles are asked to bring these to the Parent Center. Lost textbooks will be returned to the Textbook Room.
 Do not bring valuable items to school. The school is not responsible, and will not replace, any lost or stolen property. Large amounts of money and expensive jewelry should remain at home.
Lunch and Breakfast Program This program enables eligible students to receive breakfast/nutrition and lunch free or at reduced prices. In order to participate, you must obtain an application and take it home for your parent to complete. Return it to the ticket clerk in the cafeteria during homeroom.
Permits to Leave School No student may leave school without written permission. You must bring a note signed by your parent explaining the reason why you must leave school early and the time you are to be released. Take your note to the Attendance Office before school. The Attendance Office staff will call to verify the note. You will then be given a permit to leave campus.
Saturday School Saturday School is held for selected Saturdays for eight straight weeks from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Students receive assistance with English, ESL and mathematics. All students who need extra help are encouraged to come. All registration must de done in advance. See Mr. Avalos and Ms. Davis to register.
Student Store The Student Store is located on the first floor (north end) of the Cafeteria Building. You may purchase school supplies, backpacks, P.E. clothes (except shoes) and snacks in the Student Store. It is open before school and during nutrition and lunch.
Substitute Teachers A substitute teacher will be provided whenever a regular teacher is absent. These teachers are guests on our campus and we expect that they will receive your cooperation and respect at all times to help them accomplish their duties.
Supplies You are expected to go to class with the required supplies to do your work. A three-ring notebook, pencils, pens (blue or black ink), and lined paper are general supplies needed for most classes. Students are not allowed to have markers on campus. School supplies are sold in the Student Store.
Tardies You are considered TARDY if you are not in your seat, ready to work, before the tardy bell rings. If you arrive to school after 7:25 a.m., report to the Attendance Office.
Textbooks Textbooks are issued to you by your teachers. They must be covered to protect them from damage, and your name should be written on the inside label. You are responsible for returning your textbooks in the same condition as when they were issued to you. You will be expected to pay for any damage or loss.
Truancy You will be considered truant if you are absent from a class or from school without parental or school permission.
Tutoring Program Tutoring is offered in a variety of subject areas. See the list posted in your track center for times and locations. Students who need help with classwork, or just need a quiet place to study are encouraged to attend.
Visitors Visitors are not allowed on campus. Students from other schools, friends, or relatives uiot visit during school hours.
Work Permits A student fourteen years or older who is employed part-time, weekends or during vacations must have a work permit. Work Permits may be applied for after school in the Attendance Office.
